TVIX Box HD M-6500A Multimedia Player

TVIX Box HD M-6500A Multimedia Player
General Information
Now you can easily watch or listen to all of you digital media on your TV! The TViX HD M-6500A plays high definition video up to 1080p with Dolby TrueHD audio support. You can create your own virtual DVD library by storing your personal collection of DVDs in .ISO or .IFO format and watch them exactly as if they were running from the original DVD’s. With H.264(MKV) support, HDMI 1.3 output and a SATA HDD interface, the M-6500A guarantees maximum performance and lower storage space requirements. With a user friendly interface it is a much simpler alternative to a Home Theater PC.

Connect the Tvix Box to your computer, then drag-and-drop video, audio, or photos onto the Tvix Box. You can even use it as an external storage device for all of your data. Next, plug the Tvix Box directly into your TV and you can control the playback of your files using of the Tvix Box’s remote control and on-screen menu. You can watch all your media files in the comfort of your family room. With its compact size, you can take the Tvix Box with you wherever you go!

The TViX HD M-6500A has room for one hard drive. You can buy the unit with or without the hard drive and it supports both SATA I and II, unlike the Popcorn Hour A-100 which only takes IDE drives. However, it only takes about five minutes to install a pre-formated hard drive and you could save some money if you install your own drive. But, if you prefer not to try that sort of thing you can opt for a pre-installed hard drive.

The M-6500A can also be networked with a computer using its built-in LAN port. This enables you to play files from the computer without having to copy them onto the TVIX Box hard drive. There is optional WiFi support, but it has limited capabilites and is not recommended for high definition content. The display on the unit provides feedback about what it’s doing unlike the Apple TV, Popcorn Hour A-100, or the DivX Connected. Some of the first generation units had overheating issues, but this was quickly solved by the manufacturer and units sold today do not have from this issue.

Consumer Feedback

Rating: ★★★★½

I recently bought the TVIX 6500 HD box and I must say it is absolutely amazing. I was for a while thinking about getting the Apple TV box and I was on the verge of getting it but then I started to look at the file formats it supported, how big the disk inside of it was and what I could do with it . . . I put in a 500 GB disc in [my 6500] and I have all my fav. DVD’s in .ISO format on it, some DIVX files, some XVID files, some .MKV files and more coming in as time goes by. I bought some Blu-ray movies and extracted the movies only and made them into .MKV movies. Works perfect. Sure it stumbles at times when you FFW and REW the .MKV files but so does my PC. .ISO files (DVD copies) work like a charm. No problems what so ever so far. This thing is the best thing since sliced bread :p … and you know what? It works the way you want it to.

I own one of these and am quite happy with it. It has an aggressive user forum at mpcclub.com. DVICO does respond to e-mails, so feel free to write them. They provide firmware updates with the ability to test beta updates. I am able to dump quite a few media on it and just have it play. It plays my S-Def & H-Def media quite well. I can also play ISO files there with full menus and hide the original from the kids (I had to buy 2 dics over twice because of this).

It allows me to stream my content (DVD iso, Photos, Music, Internet Radio), which resides on a 12TB RAID 6 Linux Server (using NFS) from my garage. The content streams through a wireless Network with no shuttering or streaming issues. The beauty of this setup is is mainly in the Movie Jukebox function where I use this program called Movie GUI Builder (formally called TViX GUI Builder) to enhance my GUI interface which allows me to display folders (containing ISO files) as DVD covers. Once you select the DVD cover, there is a overview of the movie, similar to what you see from online movie reviews. I simply press play and off we go. It works flawlessly for me. Friends and family members are simply amazed.
